You know ladies, what actually had me rocking about this book, is how it had to effect Jr and the girls. How horrible to have someone talk about your Dad like he was a dog. Do you know I told Jr. some time back that I knew how much David loved him because of the times David and I talked, and how worried David had been about whether he was being raised right. Jr. thanked me for telling him that his Dad loved him. The accusations leveled against David had to hurt the kids. Those kind of things usually put a question in your mind. I am proud to say that my father who was also a musician is the first cousin of David and Jimmy Ruffin. When my parents broke up I lost touch with my Ruffin cousins.
My first meeting with Sandra Ruffin, that I was old enough to remember was when my cousin Nedra got married.
She is a beautiful open and loving woman. I do not know Genna although I have of course heard of her. I have not as of yet met David Jr.,but I want to.
I did not meet David's other wife. But to get to the point of my post, what truth about them is to be known soon?

My head was spinning. I was blind with rage--I knew I had to do something, but I wasn't sure what. I couldn't decide to press charges or not (after all, his father would kill me), but I did decide to file a report and have the cops take photos "just in case."
With that decided, I drove him directly to good old Twelfth Precinct. The moment I walked inside, control was (blessedly) removed from my hands. Once they got a gander at his back, it was all over but the shoutin'. The police accompanied David Junior to the house to get some clothing and then to bring him back to the station. They wanted me to wait there--and they didn't have to twist my arm. I was terrified of David Senior by then. (David's phone had been shut off, but I had a few things to say to him, plus he still didn't know I was in town, so I sent a note with the police. It said something like, "Do not expect David Junior home from school today. He's in protective custody. You'll never hit me or my son again." Unfortunately, that turned out to be wishful thinking).
I don't think that any one ever said "no" to David Ruffin Senior. That's why he was such a brat. Well, I felt I owed it to him to break that pattern. Mind you, I was long since safely "Outside Parkside", or I would never have had the nerve. When he'd beat David Junior, he'd lock the door of the room they were in. That was terrifying to me--and intimidating.
Why did David beat him so that day? None of us could understand it. He said that David didn't make his bed fast enough. The baby said that he was up in the attic making a Valentine for his daddy--he was distracted. So, maybe it was even longer than a few minutes, David. Whatever. There's no justification. He beat him for twenty or thirty minutes. Then, at ten-thirty that night, he left him alone like that in that big old thirteen or fourteen-room, Dark Shadows-looking dungeon. He rolled in at seven-thirty the next morning while David Junior was fretting about getting to school--imagine what that was like for him. We can all picture where DR spent the night--it was a "house", alright, but not his.
The police took us to the Child Abuse Unit. I was panic-stricken because I didn't have an apartment to take him to, and was afraid I'd lose custody based on that. They had a place called D.J. Healey Home where David Junior was to stay until I found a place. I wouldn't let go of him until I was convinced that I would have no trouble getting him back. I was also relieved to learn that the facility also had a school, so I wouldn't have that to worry about as well as everything else. I began to feel a little less anxious. Plus, I was assured his whereabouts would be kept secret from his father. I finally agreed to leave him there. It was hard for both of us. But, we were in such a mess; I had no choice just then.
I got him back in only six days. But not before some low-life fan of David's who worked at Healey sent him word of our hiding place. I can't remember any more how I found that out, maybe he phoned there. Furthermore, I knew there wasn't a place far enough away to be safe from David at that time. I found a cheap townhouse (with even appliances included) in an outlying suburb and moved us in. We had all of one double mattress, a 5" black and white television, and a TV tray table. That's it. Believe it or not, we regrouped--and regrouped well! It was a miracle.
We literally hid incommunicado for nearly two years. But there in Taylor, Michigan, David Junior went through a different kind of hell. The town turned out to be full of rednecks--and redneck kids. A few things that he suffered: Being shot at regularly with BB guns, being knocked unconscious while an entire busload of kids (and driver) stood by, being blamed for vandalism, and the piece de resistance--the time the redneck kids caught him and literally sliced his clothes to shreds, including his big, heavy leather insulated boots.
Ultimately, we could stand it no longer. The hiding, the waiting, the rednecks, and--especially missing David Senior. At last I admitted to DERj that I missed his father and wanted to call him. "

While I admit Genna does not have many fans at the Palace,it is Absurd to suggest this bolg is the creation of the members there.

Back to the topic: I love David Ruffin's music and to me, he seemed to be a cool guy. The idiot who keeps posting those ridiculous posts is nothing more than an attention whore. He has nothing to stand on except one person's opinion. Very narrow minded and one sided. Everybody has a story to tell, so I don't see the point of dismissing someone else's story just because you don't agree with it. I don't dismiss Genna's story but I don't agree with the way she belittle and degraded people to put herself above others. If other women were with Ruffin and he did not treat them that way, I don't see why that's hard to believe either. That's THEIR story. Who is anyone to say otherwise? If there is another side to this story I don't seeing anybody writing it. Genna had the courage to write her story. She is not like these copy-cat girlfriends that are coming out of the wood work.
